Rhinoplasty - a nose surgery in Turkey

Rhinoplasty in Turkey is a surgical procedure that changes the shape or size of the nose. Most often, this operation is performed to correct a bumpy nose or a nose that is too wide. Quite a few people are dissatisfied with the shape of their nose. A rhinoplasty in Turkey can be changed at a much lower cost than in Europe.

Definition: What is a nose surgery in Turkey?

Rhinoplasty in Turkey is a plastic surgery procedure aimed at modifying the morphology of the nose for aesthetic and/or functional reasons. These changes can be congenital, traumatic, or age-related. Rhinoplasty, a relatively common procedure, allows the patient to have a more beautiful nose. This operation is also known under the name nose correction, nose plastic or nose job.

Optimize the shape of the nose

A nose job is a surgical procedure to reshape the nose. More precisely, it is a modification of the external structure that can be carried out both for aesthetic reasons and to correct functional aspects related to respiratory diseases.

Rhinoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia using non-invasive techniques, mainly based on the use of lasers, and changes the shape of the nose by affecting the bony and cartilaginous skeleton. The recovery phase lasts only a few days, edema and ecchymoses subside, and after just a few days the patient can participate in normal social life again.

The duration of a nose operation in Turkey / Antalya varies between 10 and 40 minutes depending on the technique used. A nose correction is used when the aim of the procedure is not only aesthetic, but also when there is a change in the nasal septum due to trauma or malformation. The following specialists are involved in nose correction in Turkey / Antalya: maxillofacial surgery, ENT medicine, plastic and reconstructive surgery.

The center of our face says a lot about us

A nose job is not trivial. If medical or cosmetic procedures often have an intimacy that affects self-image, this is even more true for an attribute that is in the center of the face. The nose reveals many things, sometimes unpleasant things. One should not downplay family reasons – the shape of the nose is associated with a father with whom one has a difficult relationship – or ethnic reasons – some people may find the nose too ‘typical’. Sometimes just a word or a comment is enough to trigger the desire for a nose correction. This is a very important psychological dimension. It is a process that also requires a perfect understanding between the doctor and the patient,

Who can undergo nose surgery in Turkey?

Rhinoplasty can be performed on anyone who needs it. However, it is not recommended for children or adolescents. Adolescents’ noses are not fully developed until the age of 16, and usually later in boys. In general, it is better to wait until adulthood. You shouldn’t rush into anything. On the one hand, because the young person must have matured in his decision, and on the other hand, because there is a risk that the nose will continue to grow. There is a risk of operating on noses that are not yet fully developed. This would mean that the shape of the nose would change again later.

What techniques are used in rhinoplasty in Antalya?

Every Turkish surgeon has his own working habits, but there are still some basic principles. In a closed procedure, the surgeon works through internal incisions in the nose. These incisions are hidden, mostly in the nostrils, more rarely under the upper lip. Externally there are no scars to be seen. In an open rhinoplasty, the surgeon operates through a small incision in the nasal passage (the area between the nostrils, under the nose). Open rhinoplasty is becoming more and more common.

  • The advantages: You can see better what you are doing. This technique also makes it easier to work on complicated noses, for example to better shape the tip of the nose. In the case of noses that have already been operated on or have been traumatized, we can work more precisely and finely with the open nose correction.
  • Disadvantage: the healing time. More tissue is removed and therefore the follow-up treatment takes a little longer. The final result will also be seen later, after about 2 years for closed surgery as opposed to about 3 years for open surgery.

How is the nose operated and are there scars?

In many cases, the operation is performed via a hidden approach, the so-called endonasal approach, in which the scars in the nostrils are hidden; more rarely, in really difficult cases (surgery on a sensitive tip of the nose, deviated nose, secondary nose surgeries, etc.), an “external” approach may be necessary, creating a small scar on the bridge of the nose, which can sometimes be seen when looking at the nose from below

The structures to be corrected must then be uncovered so that they can be seen clearly. For this purpose, the soft tissues lying over the nasal skeleton, whose architecture is to be changed, are loosened. At the end of the procedure, these incisions are closed with an absorbable thread.

How is the shape of the tip of the nose changed?

This is usually the most delicate part of the surgery. The Turkish surgeon models the cartilaginous structures, the shape and dimensions of which determine the projection and shape of the flap. If the cartilage needs to be reduced, e.g. B. with a bumpy nose, where the cartilage is clearly visible under the skin, a carefully selected part of the cartilage is removed. In other cases, the cartilage is weakened to reduce its resistance and resilience.

In order to improve the shape of the tip, it is sometimes necessary to approximate the two cartilages that form the tip with sutures. Sometimes cartilage transfers are necessary to give the tip a more harmonious shape. These grafts are taken directly from the nose at the level of the nasal septum or, more rarely, from the ear cartilage and have no identifiable aesthetic or functional consequences.

How do you remove a nasal bump?

There are two very different technical approaches to reducing the height of the nose: “clipping” or “pushing in” the hump. Either rasps or a chisel are used to remove the cusp. The removal of the nasal hump creates an “open roof”, ie a space between the two nasal bones that makes the nose appear like a flat roof.

To align the nose, the nasal bones must be trimmed to the level of the facial surface so that the two bony lobes meet in the midline, creating a fine and regular nasal bridge. There are several technical aids to adjust the profile, especially bone or cartilage grafts, that can improve the outcome or prevent secondary abnormalities.

Today, techniques that “sink” the nasal bump are less common. Its principle is to preserve the bridge of the nose, which would not present a major defect. These techniques prevent the risk of abnormalities on the dorsal side of the nose, where there is

only a nasal base cut; the pyramid of the nose is pushed inward like an ice cube, making the hump disappear and reducing the height of the nasal profile line; at the same time, the width of the base of the nose is reduced accordingly. The Turkish surgeon chooses the most appropriate technique based on his experience.

What are the results to expect after nose surgery in Turkey?

It takes 12 months to see the final result. Of course, when surgeons remove a large bump, you’ll see the change when the doctors remove the bandage. But edema may develop that is not immediately or evenly resorbed. Much of the results are achieved very quickly, but the end result will require patience. When the tip of the nose is opened – in an open approach with tissue transection – the after-effects are longer. It takes an average of 3 months for the operated area to fully heal and for the skin to adapt to the new bone and cartilage structure. It is only after 12 months that the final result can be properly assessed.

What are the risks of a nose job?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that is usually not very painful. The bandages are removed the next day (sometimes after a few days for complex nasal septum procedures), a splint is left in place to protect the nose for about a week, and the sutures in the nose will unravel on their own. As a rule, hematoma, swelling and bruising can occur.

The hematomas will drain spontaneously. There may be difficulty breathing, taste may change for a few weeks while swelling subsides. When it comes to social exclusion, it all depends on the patient. If he doesn’t mind going outside with the splint, he can quickly get back to work. Otherwise, he will have to wait a week for the splint to be removed. It takes 8 to 10 days to resume sport, depending of course on the sport.

Contact sports where there is a risk of impact should be avoided for three weeks to a month. It should be noted that after removing the splint leaves edema, which disappears after a few weeks. Rhinoplasty in Turkey is not really a risky procedure in terms of immediate complications. Of course, as with any surgical procedure, there are some risks, especially those related to anesthesia, but there are practically none.
